Crete is known since antiquity for the quality and diversity of its aromatic and medicinal plants. The soil, the weather, the winds and the different biotopes that the island provides and maybe some so far unknown factors, all contribute to the splendid quality of Cretan aromatic plants. Already in Ancient Egypt, about 3500 years ago, herbs from then Minoan Crete were highly estimated. Egyptian tombs (of Sen-mut and Rekh-ma-ra) picture traders from 'Kefti ', or 'Keftiu', Crete, identified by their wasp- waists, girdle and minoan kilts, arriving with pots and bags full of herbs and spices... For thousands of years hereafter, 'as Cretan herbs' was a quality criterion for herbs, indicating superior quality..Botanists and herbalists from Theophrastus in the 4th century BC on, over Dioscurides in 79AD have mentioned the plants of Crete with special emphasis in their writings. Until these days, Crete is blessed with a multitude of wild growing aromatic herbs in remote areas, and botanists are still fascinated by the diversity of Cretan plant-life, about 1900 documented species, of which some 10% are endemic- growing nowhere else in the world.

As any conscious visitor to the island has experienced, Crete is aromatic wherever one steps. In late spring the scent of lavender, then savory, oregano, thyme and later sage fills the air wherever one steps away from the asphalt roads and holiday paradises by the coast....

Its here, that we collect each plant in its natural, wild environment, be it in the mountains, by the sea, in the hills..places far away from civilisation, always taking care of the plants survival, always cleaning competitors around the plants..always leaving enough flowers for the bees. That way we are rewarded with the health and joy of the plants, when we come by the next year to collect..

All herbs are, ofcourse, collected and cleaned by hand, labelled with the area and date of collection. Herbs are best within a year from collection, so we do fresh batches every season. Our herbs are never older than approximately one year and in contrast to the often haylike quality of commercially available herbs, mechanically harvested and with expiry dates up to five years, still possess their full colour, aromatic flavor and properties..

Also the hand cleaning of the herb from the stalks contributes to the quality of the herb, as mechanically cleaned herbs loose a  lot of their aroma and flavour during the process. Our herbs are favoured by both hobby- and professional cooks alike for their quality. Because of their freshness and the gentle handling, the herbs are very aromatic and flavor-full. A little goes a long way, both in cooking and used as a tisane..          Go to the shop

We also produce soaps and shampoo, using our hydrolates, biological olive- and avocado oil and essential oils. We apply a cold production procedure, at a temperature of maximum 28°C in order to preserve the vitamins in the oils and the properties of the hydrolates, or flowerwaters and of the essential oils.

Both the soap and the shampoo are mild and non-irritant, fragrant and soothing. Both the high quality of the ingredients and the cold production procedure play a role for the outstanding quality of these products. As the aqueous base we use the hydrolates from our distillery, which together with the essential oils add not only an extremely pleasant natural fragrance, but also lend therapeutic activity. They are now available at our webshop as well.

Ingredients of the Shampoo:

Hydrolate of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) and Bay Laurel leaves (Laurus nobilis), vegetable-based, 100% biodegradable washactive substances (Decyl glucoside, Mipa Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidylpropyl Betaine), biological certified olive- and avocado oil, guar gum, essential oils of Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis), rosemary (Rosmarinus offcinalis) and thyme (Thymus capitatus). All natural ingredients. Nothing else.

Properties of the Shampoo

We havn't changed the recipe for the shampoo during the last ten years, because it has proved extremely beneficial for hair health over the years, as many people can confirm. It balances hair health and combats even problems which have persisted for years- greasy hair, dry hair, dandruff, alopecia (hairloss) and even fungal hair infections (Tinea capitis). In our experience, the shampoo restores the natural balance of the scalp and hair, which too often has been disturbed by industrial preparations. In addition, the shampoo is concentrated, and a bottle will last for many months.

The shampoo can also be used as a body shampoo.                                                 Go to the shop
